National Performing Groups
National Children's Choir
In the summer of 1990 two sisters, Mrs Patricia Bazard and Mrs. Audrey Wright, in an effort to enhance the potential of the youth of the Bahamas, formed a group of twenty-five (25) students from government and private schools as a community project.
To commemorate the first landfall of Christopher Columbus the choir was invited to become the entities of the Quincentennial Celebrations. The choir was also formed to enable the children to identify with their culture, cultivate their talents and provide an opportunity for their individual development while offering healthy entertainment for the general public.
The members of the choir range in ages from five to fifteen (5 - 15) years. The number of choir members has grown from 25 at its inception to approximately seventy (70) active members to date. The choir is a complete representation of all economic levels (strata) of our society.
The choir has performed for Bahamian Civic Organizations, business establishments, and churches throughout New Providence and Freeport, Grand Bahama. The choir has travelled to the United States and performed for American and Canadian groups visiting Nassau.
The choir was honoured to be a representative of the Bahamas for the Smithsonian Folk Festival and to perform throughout the Washington, D.C. area as musical ambassadors July 4 through 10, 1994; also was invited to perform at the Aberdeen Youth Festival 2000 in Aberdeen Scotland and at the World's Fair in Germany.
