Nassau, BahamasOne of five children born to Edith and William Pitt Oakes, December 23, 1874 in Sangerville,Maine, in the United States. In 1923 he met Eunice MacIntyre and married, she bore him five children.

In 1934 he moved to the Bahamas where he is remembered for his charitable deeds, work ethics and, for some the enormity of his wealth - he owned 10,000 acres of property in New Providence in addition to his residences.
