THE REGISTRAR OF INSURANCE
Dr. Roger Brown, Registrar of Insurance Companies

Dr. Roger G. Brown was born in Johnson Road, Fox Hill, New Providence on the 15th October, 1943. He attended Sandilands Primary School and St. Anne’s Secondary School, both in Fox Hill. He has the distinction of being one of the first lot of students who, by the Grace of God, were privileged to enter St. Anne’s School when the institution was founded in January of 1955.


In 1966 he entered the University of the West Indies in Mona Jamaica, were he read for a B.A. (Special Honors) in History. His other academic credentials include the:

Diploma in Education (Dip. Ed.) – U.W.I. (1970)
Master of Education (M.Ed.) – University of Toronto (1975)
Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) – University of Miami (1985)
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) – University of Miami (1987)

Dr. Brown spent most of his professional life in education. His career in education started as a Student Teacher at St. Anne’s, while he studied for his G.C.E. “A- Levels”. On his return home from U.W.I. in 1970, he was appointed to the post of Deputy Head Master at Highbury he also taught history to the Grade 12 classes, and to evening students at what is now the C.H. Reeves Secondary School.

In 1972 he was appointed Vice Principal of the Bahamas Teachers’ College, which later became part of the College of the Bahamas C.O.B.). In 1976 he was appointed Registrar of C.O.B. and in 1995 he became the first Executive Vice President of the newly restructured College. On a number of occasions between 1976 and 1995 he acted as Registrar, Vice Principal and Principal of the College.

Dr Brown retired from the Public Service in 1995 and took up an appointment as Coordinator for the Bahamas General Insurance Association, the local trade association for most ‘Other than Life” insurance companies, brokers and agents.

In November, 2000, Dr. Brown rejoined the Public Service on contract, and was appointed to the post of Registrar of Insurance Companies in the Ministry of Economic Development.

Dr. Brown is married to the former Sharon Tynes, and they have two daughters, Roshar who is a barrister, and Rashida, a doctor.
