Health Professions Council
1. What is the role of the Health Professions Council?
Though the duties of the Council include the regulation and discipline, the main function of the Health Professions Council is the registration and licensing of the health professionals under its care. These duties are carried out by the Registrar, Mrs. Bernadette Ellis, on the advice of the Council.
2. What is the role of the Registrar?
The Registrar's role is to register the names of accepted applicants as health professionals in The Bahamas, and to act in an administrative capacity as liasion between the Ministry of Health, the health professionals, the Council members and the public. By way of the Registrar, health professionals may also obtain information, literature, application forms and brochures outlining required paperwork, procedure and fee schedule for application submission.
3. What are the requirements for registration by the Health Professions Council?
1. Evidence of qualifications/successful completion of course of study in that profession
2. Proof of citizenship in The Bahamas or
(i) a certificate of permanent resident status in The Bahamas that permits the person to engage in gainful occupation
(ii) a valid work permit
3. A statement by a licensed health professional that the applicant can read, write, speak and understand the English Language and is otherwise fit and proper to be registered as a health professional in The Bahamas
4. Payment of registration fee.
