How Do I's


How do I become a part of the baby-friendly hospital?


    1. Healthcare providers (especially those coming in contact with new mothers) can contact Lactation Management Programme for workshop dates.

    2. Register for workshop.

    3. Request time-off.

    4. Attend workshop.

    5. Follow recommendations made.


How do I receive counselling?

    1. Mothers who have 1 or more children are invited by the antenatal health provider to attend Individual Counselling with the Breastfeeding Facilitator.

    (b) Alternatively, mothers along with their partners may access the Facilitator directly to make appointment for counselling.

    2. At the end of the Breastfeeding Classes for New Parents the facilitator is available for those that require individual counselling. (This is usually at 10:00 am on the day of Breastfeeding Classes peculiar to the Clinic in question.)

    3. Contact Breastfeeding Facilitator after the birth of baby for further support and help with implementation of recommendations.


Can I be visited at home? How?


    1. Indicate to the nurse during “Home Visit” or antenatal clinic, challenges experienced during breastfeeding.

    2. Alternatively, call the Breastfeeding Facilitator to discuss the challenges experienced during breastfeeding.

    3. Obtain appointment for home counselling session.

    4. Receive Breastfeeding Facilitator or other nurse.

    5. Follow recommendations suggested.


As a new parent, how do I learn to breastfeed my baby?


    1. New mothers registering at the Antenatal Clinic are invited to attend breastfeeding classes along with their partners.

    b) Alternatively, contact the Breastfeeding Facilitator at your nearest Community Health Clinic to register directly for the programme.

    2. Attend first session.

    3. Register for other sessions during the first visit.

    4. Receive registration card containing class schedule and topics.

    5. Attend all subsequent sessions.

    6. Upon completion of all sessions, “graduate” and receive certificate of participation.

    7. Contact Breastfeeding Facilitator after the birth of baby for further support and help with implementation of recommendations.
