CHILD PROTECTION MONTH 2008

"Educate, Inform....Child Abuse is Wrong!"

The Government of The Bahamas launched its Department of Social Services theme month in April called, “National Abuse Month.” Eventually, the month was renamed “National Child Protection Month” to reflect the Ministry of Health & Social Development’s more proactive approach to the vexing problem of child abuse.

This year’s theme, “Educate, Inform –Child Abuse is Wrong!”, emphasizes the determination of the Government to directly address the scourge of abuse, neglect and abandonment of children in the country, showcase the continued efforts to combat the problem, particularly by the Department of Social Services and its social partners such as the National Child Protection Council, stimulate public outcry and to engage the cooperation of the public in protecting our nation’s most precious resource, our children.

Your support is important. You are invited to participate in Child Protection Month activities, and to fearlessly make every effort to stamp out child abuse wherever you encounter it. Together we can protect our children and preserve our future.
