WELCOME TO FIU BAHAMAS
MISSION STATEMENT
"To proactively network with local law enforcement and regulators and international counterparts to effectively assist in detecting, assessing and eradicating all threats of money laundering and financing of terrorism to the global economy."

The Financial Intelligence Unit (the “FIU”) is The Bahamas’ regulator for anti-money laundering and prevention of the financing of terrorism. It is a specialist agency established under the Financial Intelligence Unit Act, 2000 (the “Act”) in December 2000. The FIU is one of a number of regulatory agencies charged with responsibility for policing of financial services. Whereas, each of the regulators is responsible for a specific sub-sector within financial services, the FIU’s mandate empowers the agency to deal with all financial institutions as defined in Section 3 of the Financial Transactions Reporting Act, 2000.
In its regulatory role, the agency is responsible for receiving, analyzing, obtaining and, in defined circumstances, dissemination of information, which relates to or may relate to the proceeds of offences specified in the Second Schedule of the Proceeds of Crime Act.
In its intelligence role, the agency is fully committed to the Egmont Group’s “Statement of Purpose” which incorporates “Principles for Information Exchange Between Financial Intelligence Units for Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Cases.”
The FIU has accomplished much in its short history and continues to evolve in response to global changes in financial services.
