FAQ & Answers


 

Q. What do I need if I am a business owner in the Over the Hill community and would like to apply for the Economic Empowerment Zone Exemption?
A. All interested business owners must provide a valid business Licence clearly showing that the address of the business is an address within the Over the Hill Zone, a Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC), and a valid government issued identification such as a Drivers Licence, Passport, NIB etc.

 

Q. I heard that there are plans to expand the Over the hill exemption Zone.  If I reside in a zone intended to be included. Can I get the concession now?
A. No.  Only the Zones that have been outlined in the current legislation are permitted.  As this changes, the public will be made aware of information regarding new exemption zones.

 

Q. Can I apply using my address and use the exemption for another location?
A. No.  All items received under exemptions granted should be used for the location stated on the application.

 

Q. What proof will I have that I have been granted an exemption?
A. If your application is successful, you will receive a certificate of trade or a certificate of development which is valid for one year.

 

Q. If my application is approved, what happens if I am not financially able to buy building materials or a commercial vehicle at this time?
A. The certificate of trade or certificate of development is valid for one year from the date of issuance.

 

Q. What if I am renting? Can I apply for the exemptions to make renovations to the property?
A. Yes, you may apply.  The owner of the property must give written confirmation that you are allowed to make renovations to their property.  Additionally, the owner will be required to provide a conveyance or proof of entitlement, along with valid government issued identification.
