Chairman

Philip C. Galanis

Philip C. Galanis received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Philosophy, with honours, from Saint John’s University in Minnesota and a Master of Business Administration degree in accounting from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Valuation Analyst.

He has worked at Arthur Andersen in New York City, is the former Managing Partner of Ernst & Young in The Bahamas and now runs his own firm HLB Galanis & Co, Chartered Accountants, Forensic & Litigation Support Services.

In his 43 years in public accounting, Mr. Galanis has gained extensive experience in auditing, corporate finance, liquidations, receiverships, forensic accounting, and litigation support services.

Mr. Galanis has served as President of The Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants from 1988 to 1992 and as President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean from 1995 to 1997.

He has also served fifteen years in Parliament, one term in the House of Assembly and two terms in the Senate.  He presently serve as the Chairman of The Bahamas Trade Commission and was the country’s Chief Negotiator in negotiations related to accession to the World Trade Organization.  He presently serves on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Saint John’s University.

 

Mr. Galanis writes a weekly column in the Nassau Guardian entitled: Consider This. He is the author of a book which includes a compilation of his Consider This articles from 2008 to 2012.  The book is entitled: All Things Considered.

 

He is married to Tonya Bastian Galanis, the Principal of the Eugene Dupuch Law School and former Chairman of the Securities Commission of The Bahamas. They have one daughter, Zoë.

 

 

Deputy Chairman

Senator The Honourable Barry N. Griffin, B.A., LLB (Hons.), Vice President of The Senate

 

Barry N. Griffin is a Bahamas-based counsel and attorney-at-law. He has developed an impressive reputation for his advice regarding corporate and commercial matters with noted areas of proficiency in financial services regulation, corporate governance, fintech and digital assets, and small and medium size business counsel. He provides both transactional and advisory counsel, and is a well-regarded choice of legal counsel among local and international high net-worth individuals.

Barry is prominently civically engaged and currently serves as a government Senator and Vice President of The Senate in the Parliament of The Bahamas, the youngest person to ever hold that role. Barry also serves as the Deputy Chairman of The Bahamas Trade Commission and is the Chief Trade Negotiator for The Bahamas.


Barry was educated at Saint Augustine’s College in Nassau; thereafter, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations & Economics at Saint John’s University in Minnesota. Barry then read Law at King’s College, University of London in London, United Kingdom.

Barry is called to the Bar of England and Wales and the Bahamas Bar.
