FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator the Hon. James Kwasi Thompson welcomed arriving travelers at the startup of Vacation Express Summer Program Flights to Grand Bahama, Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2018.

Mr. Thompson, who holds Cabinet responsibilities for the island of Grand Bahama, said “today is a very good day for Grand Bahama.  As you can see, today marks the return of Vacation Express.  A few months ago the government was in negotiation with Sunwing Airlines and we negotiated the return of the very important Vacation Express, which brings additional airlift to Grand Bahama.

“So today really marks the return of Vacation Express.  We have seen a plane that came from Nashville that brought 150 passengers.  And those 150 passengers will stay for four nights here in Grand Bahama.  They are going to be staying at a number of our hotels.  They are going to be eating at our restaurants, taking our taxi cabs. And so, it really means a significant economic boost for Grand Bahama this year,” he stated.

Minister Thompson further advised that it addition to the Nashville route, Vacation Express, which is known for its exclusive nonstop flights and affordable all-inclusive vacation packages, will be offering flights from Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Newark, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Dallas.

Each flight will operate on a four-night rotation, departing various days of the week with early departures and late returns for an optimal vacation experience.

“So we are very happy to see the return of Vacation Express.  It is very important to Grand Bahama. One of the things that the government has been working diligently on is providing additional airlift to Grand Bahama, so today we have seen the fruits of that work,” he said.
