NASSAU, Bahamas (November 24, 2017) – The Citizen Security and Justice Programme, ahead of its 2017 Public Awareness Campaign, recently hosted two stakeholder sensitization workshops at the Cecil Wallace Whitfield Building, West Bay Street. The workshops were held in an effort to convey general awareness of the programme and encourage collaboration between key stakeholders. The CSJP is funded by a $20 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.
The CSJP’s central goal is to reduce crime specifically violent crime on the island of New Providence.
The programme calls for a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary approach that necessitates the expertise of multiple ministries and governmental bodies, the business community, educators, clergy and civic society. This approach guarantees success and will help sustain the programs and initiatives developed through lifespan of the project.
Internal stakeholders included employees from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Ministry of Labour and officers from the Bahamas Department of Corrections. Participants were given an opportunity to share information about their various programmes and initiatives. External stakeholders included Head Knowles, The Family: People Helping People and We Rise Bahamas. They were invited to explore opportunities to leverage expertise while simultaneously collaborating on the project.
