Nation Builders Receive Queen’s Birthday Honours

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Bahamians from all walks of life packed the ballroom of Government House, Mount Fitzwilliam, Monday, December 9, to witness the Presentation of Insignia and Warrants of Appointment to nation builders, who are recipients of Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2019.

 

Dignitaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, family, friends, well-wishers and senior government officials, attended the Investiture.

 

The Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis, Prime Minister, said the honourees exemplified generosity of spirit and the best of what it means to be a Bahamian.

 

“Over many decades they have touched the lives of many thousands of Bahamians and others. They have given service in areas such as the uniformed branches, nursing, religious ministry, civic life, philanthropy, medicine, education, commerce, public service, sports and other areas of national health,” he said.

 

“We are here to recognize citizens who devoted their full measure in the service of their fellow citizens. It is my privilege to thank these fine men and women who have been appointed to various honours by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”


The Prime Minister extended gratitude to the honourees, on behalf of the government and the people of The Bahamas, for their example and their contribution to various areas of public life.

His Excellency, the Most Hon. Cornelius A. Smith, Governor-General, ON, Chancellor and Governor General, presented the awards.

 

The Honourees:

 

Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)

Frederick Asa Hazlewood received his appointment as Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George at an Investiture at Buckingham Palace, London, on October 22nd, 2019.

 

Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)

Pastor Paul Adlai Scavella

 

Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)

(Civil Division)

Godfrey Brian Thomas is expected to receive his appointment as an Ordinary Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order in early spring of 2020 at an Investiture at Buckingham Palace, London.
