Tourism Statistics

The Research and Statistics Department collects and processes data from surveys conducted at airports, cruise ship ports of entry and marinas. The Department also collects secondary statistics from tourism partners.

The data collected from the surveys and Tourism partners is placed into databases and is used to provide relevant information to our many internal and external clients.  These clients include managers within the Ministry of Tourism, Industry Partners, potential investors, other government agencies and of course students.

The Research Department generates annual Exit Survey Reports, Cruise Survey Reports, expenditure data and visitor demographics.  It also collects monthly data on hotel occupancy, visitor arrivals, tourism statistics, and casino data.

In addition, the Research Department carries out adhoc surveys that assist the Ministry of Tourism and the tourism industry partners to look below the surface of their performance. The Department always tries to find answers to all the we need to know questions that help Industry partners plan their tactics or strategies.

The Research and Statistics Department provides answers that measure and track changes in Bahamian attitudes for training and awareness programmes such as Bahamahost.  It also assists with the benchmarking of the activities of visitors to the destination. Frequently, we report our results in the form of recommendations to managers and share our findings with the Industry where appropriate.

In this section, we provide the baseline tables of statistics captured through the efforts described above. For most marketing information based on the Immigration Card, the data goes back to the year 2000 – although basic trend tables, for example stopovers, extend back far beyond 2000. The formats presented are designed to give our clients a glimpse of the key trends, and show them a glance of what is happening today.  The data provided on the site will also assist our clients in finding what they need quickly.
