School Registration for Displaced Abaco and Grand Bahama Students
Published Date : September 11, 2019

The general public is advised that due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Dorian on residents of Grand Bahama and Abaco, parents and guardians of displaced students, ages 4-19, are invited to seek enrolment at one of the government schools in New Providence, or in any of the unaffected family islands.

In order to effectively assist parents and guardians in carrying out this process, the Ministry of Education will facilitate school registration at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium, beginning Thursday September 12th – Friday, October 11th, 2019, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Students will also be able to access multiple services from The Ministry of Health, The Ministry of Social Services, The Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, and The Royal Bahamas Police Force during this process, including:

  • Medical screenings required for school enrolment
  • Uniform and lunch assistance
  • Referrals for counseling services
  • Referrals for enrolment in social, sporting and extra-curricular activities

Where available, parents and guardians are requested to provide documentation for their children, including their immunization cards. Bussing will be provided to and from each shelter to the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium, and shelter managers will be informed of the schedule for registration.

All public school students formerly enrolled in schools in Abaco and Grand Bahama are expected to participate in this process, whether or not they are residing in government shelters. Persons not residing in the shelters are requested to contact the Ministry of Education at 502-3779 and 502-8319, to receive details regarding the scheduling of their registration.

The Ministry of Education urges all New Providence parents and guardians of public schools students, who have not yet registered their children for the 2019- 2020 school year to do so immediately at their respective schools.
