The Department of Social Services can help with food vouchers and other forms of social support if you have been put on reduced weeks since March 1, 2020.





Eligibility 

Persons experiencing hardship as a result of a Disaster

Process 

There are two ways to apply:

  1. Click the 'Go to Service' button on this page and complete the online assistance request application.  You will need to upload proof of reduced work hours, and a copy of your NIB card and valid Passport (ID pages).

OR

  1. Email the completed social assistance application form to socialservicesapp@bahamas.gov.bs.
    • The Social Services Disaster/Emergency Assistance Application form can be found and downloaded below under the heading Application Form(s).
    • Attach to the email the completed  application form, proof indicating you are on reduced work hours, and a copy of your NIB card and valid Passport (ID pages)

Once you submit the form, an officer of the Department of Social Services will contact you for the verification process and advise you of the next steps.

 

Note: Workers who have been laid off or disengaged should make application to the National Insurance Board for an unemployment benefit.
