FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest urged campers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Summer Camp to explore their talents and creativity, during the camp’s official opening on Monday, June 24.

The six-week camp has the theme, “Developing young minds for a better tomorrow”; the opening was held at Freeport Bible Church.

In keeping with the theme of the camp, Deputy Prime Minister Turnquest told the young campers that even though many of them go to government schools, they should not be deterred as nothing can stop them from achieving their hearts’ desires. He urged them to not only believe in themselves and remain focused on their goals, but associate with people who are positive.

“You can be anything that you want to be and it starts today,” he said. He encouraged the youngsters to choose their activities wisely and surround themselves with people who will strengthen and help them to succeed.

After a year of working hard in the classroom, the campers were told that they should use the summer to explore their creative talents. Discover what they like to do and what interests them, as there is a demand for it.

Deputy Prime Minister Turnquest also urged the young people to listen to their counselors, follow their instructions and participate in the activities. He thanked the Royal Bahamas Police Force for once again hosting the camp, and asked them to consider holding one for young people who are a little older than their attendees.  He said there are many young people who would benefit from such an environment because they may lack something and may need just a little encouragement.

He said it is about building a wholesome community and said, “If we want to make our country better, it begins with us.”

Also addressing the young campers were Youth Pastor of Freeport Bible Church, Pastor Kyle Maycock, and Officer in Charge of Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas District, Assistant Commissioner of Police Samuel Butler.
