NASSAU, The Bahamas -- Minister of Financial Services, Trade & Immigration the Hon. Elsworth Johnson at the Department of Immigration announced today, June 10, 2020 that the Department has partnered with SunRyse Communications Ltd., a Bahamian company, to introduce Facial Recognition Thermometer Camera technology in its offices for advance detection of COVID-19 symptoms and other seasonal viruses such as cold and flu. The technology will be deployed at Mount Royal House, Monarch House, Prince George Dock office, Carmichael Road Detention Centre, LPIA office.  It is suitable for government buildings, airports, businesses, communities, schools, buses, and other crowded public places. When a person enters the common area or staff entrance, a camera system takes temperature before there is further access. The Facial Recognition Thermometer can detect the forehead temperature and quickly identify the information of the person with a mask. This device can effectively capture human body temperature and face information, realizing a partial-occluded face recognition effect.  Minister Johnson is pictured second from right holding the device, as Director of Immigration Clarence A.
