Ministry Congratulates Winners at the 2019 Valentine’s Day “Barber J” Regatta

Nassau, The Bahamas: The Hon. Michael C. Pintard, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources congratulates the first, second and third placed winners in the “A” Class division who recently sailed in the 2019 St. Valentine Regatta “Catch Me If you can” Regatta”, held in honour of the late Eleazor “Barber J” Johnson, during an award presentation ceremony held in the Ministry’s Conference Room on Tuesday, February 20th, 2019.

 

Minister Pintard in his remarks said that the government of the Bahamas is committed to supporting the event. This was shown by increasing the grants to the organizing committee as a part of the tribute in keeping the legacy alive. He said that “Barber J” was an outstanding icon in the Grove community where he grew up, an important entrepreneur for young black kids who had aspirations of doing something significant and a great flamboyant sailor who promoted the sport.

 

Minister Pintard further stated that he hopes that more sponsors would participate and support the event which will remain a part of the Regatta schedule.

 

Mr. Eleazer Johnson Jr. and other members of the organizing Committee gave remarks and thanked the Ministry of Agriculture, sponsors, participants, boat owners and fans who made the event a success.

 

In attendance were Ms. Phedra Rahming, Permanent Secretary, Senior Officers of the Ministry, members of the Johnson Family, Skippers and family friends including Mr. Kendal “Nabbie” Black, former Commodore for the Black Point Regatta in Exuma.

 

Receiving awards were Captain Clyde Rolle who skippered the Sailing Barber Jonson’s beloved Lady Nathalie to victory, followed by Capt., Derrick Rolle, and Cpt. Lundy Robinson.
