As Andros gears up for the 2019 All-Andros Crab Fest, and as more than 10,000 people from as far afield as China, Greece, Belgium, England, United States as well as The Bahamas start making plans to swarm Central Andros June 20th to 22nd 2019 for the island’s long-awaited All Andros Crab Fest -- one of the country’s largest annual cultural-heritage events -- Mr. Wayne Cleare, chairman of the All Andros Crab Festival committee, and hard-working committee members, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Dionisio D’ Aguilar.

For more than 20 years, the All-Andros Crab Festival committee has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism to make Crab Fest the most exciting culinary experience in The Bahamas – and arguably the Caribbean – and the plan is to expand it to become the world’s Premier Crab Event.

Mr. Cleare continued, “The event started 21 years ago when Central Andros was looking for an economic boost, and local government partnered with the Ministry of Tourism.  It began with two to three vendors serving a few crab dishes: now scores of vendors prepare the crabs in many different ways ranging from crab n’ dough, stuffed crab, crab n’ rice, curried crab, crab souse, crab fitters, crab salad, garlic crab... the list goes on.

In thanking Minister D’Aguilar, Mr. Cleare stated that without the Ministry’s commitment to culture and entrepreneurship throughout The Bahamas, festivals like the Crab Fest would be nothing.   It is because of the Ministry of Tourism’s direct involvement that, indeed, during the last three years the All-Andros Crab Festival Committee along with local corporate partners has donated over $40,000 in scholarships and Back-to-School supplies to the students of Central Andros.

The Crab Festival site has had over $150,000 invested in upgrades to the facilities, including a new air-conditioned VIP Lounge, as well as construction of the Crab Festival’s Financial Center and ticket booth.  The committee is dedicated to the building of Andros and along with corporate partners/RBC has donated four scholarships to students from Central Andros High to attend the University of The Bahamas.”
