NASSAU, The Bahamas – On June 7th, 2019 World Food Safety Day will be celebrate worldwide. On Wednesday, 5th June 2019, The Bahamas Agricultural Health and Food Safety Authority held its official ceremony to recognize World Food Safety Day and a Food Safety Seminar, under the theme, Food Safety Matters!! Everyday.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Esther de Gourville PAHO representative for The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, said that World Food Safety day recognizes that everyone has the right to safe and nutritious food in adequate quantity. The Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization consider food safety to be a public health concern since the consequence of consumption of unsafe food is usually illness derived from food borne intoxications, foodborne infections or chemical contamination of food with heavy metals or organic compounds. Presentations were provided by public and private agencies in bringing more awareness to the issue of food safety. In attendance were farmers, food processors, restaurateur, chef, food services providers and anyone who comes in contact with food intended for human and animal consumption.
The one day seminar was held at the National Training Agency, Gladstone Road.
