The Hon. Dr. Duane Sands and executives of the Ministry of Health wish to express pride and gratitude to the agencies that collaborated, and swiftly responded to provide quality health care and services following the Fresh Creek, Andros, mass casualty incident on Friday, 4 October 2019.  Dr. Sands said, “I am extremely proud and grateful for the professionalism and compassion shown by all.”

 

The agencies include:

  • The Ministry of Health, Fresh Creek, Andros Clinic Staff
  • US Military at Autec, Andros
  • Air Evacuation Teams
  • Emergency Medical Teams
  • Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Medical Teams
  • PMH Patient Advocate Groups
  • MOH South Beach Health Centre Staff, and the
  • Ministry of Education

On the morning of 4th October, 49 Central Andros High School students and their bus driver were assessed and treated at the Fresh Creek, Andros, Clinic for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.  As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Health successfully arranged for the affected children, an accompanying parent/guardian and the bus driver to be flown to New Providence and transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for additional treatment.

 

The Ministry of Health is pleased to report that 47 of the 49 students treated in the capital, the bus driver and the parents/guardians of the 47 students are doing well, and have safely returned to Fresh Creek, Andros.  Two students, with improving conditions, remain in PMH for further monitoring.
