The Ministry of Health wishes to advise the public that five (5) Emergency Medical Teams have arrived in the Bahamas to provide aid to Abaco and Grand Bahama.   The teams were approved by the Ministry’s online volunteer and vetting process in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Two (2) of the five (5) teams are already providing care in Abaco.  The other three (3) teams will begin services in Grand Bahama on Sunday, 8th September and Monday, 9th September, 2019.

Teams deployed to Abaco are as follows:

  • Heart to Heart, working from Treasure Cay and Cooper’s Town, is equipped with a medical unit which can provide on-island care.
  • Rubicon will operate in Marsh Harbour and Sandy Point. This self-sufficient team is equipped with temporary shelters, medication, supplies and best-in-class technological support.
  • Humanity First will activate in Cooper’s Town and Fox Town, Sunday, 8th September, 2019, and will provide emergency medicine.

Teams deployed to Grand Bahama are as follows:

  • Samaritan’s Purse is a mobile 40 bed hospital equipped to serve up to 100 patients a day.  They will be fully activated by Monday, 9th September, 2019.
  • International Medical Corp is a fixed and mobile lifesaving healthcare team, and initiates service on Sunday, 8th September, 2019.

The Ministry of Health appreciates the support received by health relief volunteers.  The nation looks forward to the contributions of other local and international volunteers who have assisted in the past, and continue to make meaningful contributions to the populations most affected by Hurricane Dorian.
