Award for Excellence in Deep Sea Research - International Seabed Authority

The award intends to recognize and encourage the achievements of young researchers from developing countries who have made outstanding contributions to advance scientific knowledge of the deep – sea
environment.


In this regard, nominations are based on the following eligibility criteria:


2.1 Candidates must be under 35 years old at the date of nomination and must be a National from a developing country, as defined by the United Nations.

2.2 A Team consisting of eligible candidates may be nominated.

2.3 The results of the research upon which the nomination is based should have been published, either in English or French, no earlier than one year prior to the time of submission.

2.4 Candidates are not eligible for nomination if they have received the Secretary – General’s Award on a previous occasion.

2.5 Nominations should be in an official language of the International Seabed Authority and submitted to sgward@isa.org.jm by 15th April, 2018.


Nominations should consist of the following documents:

  • a letter, not exceeding 750 words, from the nominator summarizing the research and outlining the national or international significance of the work submitted;
  • the curriculum vitae of the candidate;
  • any publication derived from the research undertaken; and
  • two letters from sponsors outlining the type and impact of the research carried out by the nominee.
