The word 'casual' is used to qualify an act or event which is done or occurs by chance or accident without any pre-planning or anticipation in the normal course.  Therefore, Casual Leave caters to the employees’ need for unplanned short term leave.   

When applying for Casual Leave, no more than two days can be taken a month up to a maximum of ten (10) days per year.  It cannot be attached to vacation leave.

 


Eligibility 

According to General Order 1624 A, ten casual leave days are granted to public officers in X3 scale or on salary scale which starts at $22,300 per annum, who are not entitled to overtime.    

Process 
  1. Fill out a Casual Leave Form (collected from the Human Resource section)
  2. Submit the form to immediate supervisor for approval and signature.
  3. Once approved by the supervisor, the leave application is forwarded to Human Resources (HR).
  4. HR processes the form indicating entitlement and available leave, before submitting the leave application to the Permanent Secretary / Deputy Permanent Secretary / Head of Department / Delegated Officer for final approval.Note: Leave Application may be rejected at any stage of the process.
  5. The application form (approved/rejected) is then returned to HR.  A copy is placed on the officer’s file and another is forwarded to the officer.
  6. The officer may only proceed on leave after receiving a copy of the approved application.

The Department of Public Service is aware that most agencies create forms to support their specific agency’s function.  As such, we advise that your agency’s application for Casual Leave Form must include all fields included in the Department of Public Service - Application for Vacation/Casual Leave Form.

Turn-around time 

Within the Department of Public Service, applications for casual leave are processed within ten working days. This time may vary based on individual agency procedures.
