NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS (31 January 2022) – The Government of The Bahamas is proud to announce that 3rd February marks the one year anniversary milestone of MyGateway.gov.bs; the centralized secure portal to access and pay for Government services. With over 60,500 users, this is a significant achievement for the Digital Transformation Unit (DTU), a unit of the Department of Digitization and Transformation in the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

 

The DTU is responsible for implementing the Government Digital Transformation to Strengthen Competitiveness project, a 5-year, multimillion dollar transformation initiative. The objective of the initiative is to increase the ease of doing business in The Bahamas. Within the past twelve months, the DTU, which is composed of young Bahamians and professionals from within the region, successfully accomplished a series of firsts for The Bahamas.

 

Developed by a local Bahamian software team, MyGateway is expected to eventually facilitate online access to 200 government services by 2025. Notably, MyGateway.gov.bs customers can access and pay through the Digipay application across this centralized, safe, and secure platform. Currently, more than 60,500 persons in 25 countries have signed up for MyGateway and over 50,000 applications have been processed.

 

The Digital Transformation Unit and its partners will participate in a series of events throughout the month of February to commemorate the anniversary, including attending a church service at Bahamas Harvest, and a community service event The Digital Transformation Unit is excited to involve the general public in its Day of Purple event where MyGateway customers are invited to wear something purple on 3rd February, 2022, record a video or take a photo in their purple gear and submit it to info@mygateway.gov.bs. The submissions will be shared throughout the month on MyGateway’s social media platforms.

 

The DTU has advanced the digital transformation journey of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas with the launch of MyGateway, proposing draft legislation that supports an eGovernment mandate, public private partnership to create the first National Cybersecurity Strategy and National Cybersecurity Incident Response Team (CIRT) in conjunction with the United Nations. The DTU continues to progress the implementation of a National Electronic Identification System and The DTU continues to work closely with both public and private sector partners to progress the digital transformation journey of The Bahamas. Certified Change Management Practitioners continue to perfect our collaborations with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of project objectives.

 

The work of the DTU continues to have a far-reaching impact on The Bahamas, helping to improve the lives of citizens, residents and all clients of the Government of The Bahamas. The accomplishments over the past year have gained regional awareness, resulting in recognition for the country and its groundbreaking digital transformation efforts.
