Press Release Message On Social Media To Bahamian Parents
Authored by: Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Source: Bahamas Information Services
Date: January 15, 2021

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken note of a message being circulated on social media which appears to have originated from the Embassy of The Bahamas in Washington, DC, with advice and recommendations to parents of Bahamian students in the United States capital as regards possible reactions to current political developments in that jurisdiction.

The Ministry advises the general public, in no uncertain terms, that the said message did not originate from the Embassy.

Nevertheless, as a standard and continuous mandate, the Ministry encourages all Bahamians living, working or studying in the United States of America, just as in all other international jurisdictions, to register with the nearest Bahamian Embassy, Consulate General or Honorary Consul to facilitate assistance in the unlikely event of civil unrest, natural disasters and other emergencies, inter alia.

As always, Bahamians overseas are encouraged to avoid areas where demonstrations and civil disturbances take place or are anticipated to do so.

The Government of The Bahamas remains committed to the safety and security of all its citizens abroad and will continue to make emergency advisement when necessary.
