On April 10, 2014, the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) published the National Spectrum Plan 2014-2017 (ECS 03/2014). Effective from publication, this plan replaces and supersedes the previous National Spectrum Plan published on 21 March 2010 (ECS 06/2010).

Under section 31(1) of the Communications Act, 2009 (Comms Act), URCA is required β€œto publish a spectrum plan, which is consistent with any applicable international treaties, commitments or standards including without limitation those of the International Telecommunications Union and shall take into account relevant international recommendations.” In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Comms Act, URCA has formulated the revised National Spectrum Plan 2014 – 2017, received the approval of the Prime Minister (who is currently the Minister with responsibility for the Electronic Communications Sector) and has now published the document with immediate effect.

The National Spectrum Plan 2014 – 2017 will remain in force for at least three years, until it is revised in accordance with the Comms Act.
