An individual may be appointed to the Public Service on temporary weekly, temporary month to month, probation or contractual terms.


Eligibility 

Persons who meet the job requirements are eligible. However, it should be noted that general clerical and administrative positions are not usually open to non-Bahamians.  

Process 
  1. The applicant must submit an application form along with supporting documents to the relevant agency.
  2. The agency will manage the selection process.
  3. Once selections are completed, the agency will submit a recommendation of appointment to the Department of Public Service.
  4. The Department of Public Service processes the recommendation and would advise the agency accordingly.
  5. The officer will receive a letter of appointment, which states the appointment terms, agency assignment and salary, which may be:
    1. Temporary Weekly Terms
    2. Temporary Month to Month terms
    3. Probation
    4. Contract
  6. An applicant may accept or decline an offer of appointment.
  7. The agency will inform the Department of Public Service of the date that the officer assumed duty along with signed contract (for contract officers) for further processing.

Supporting Documents 

The applicants must supply the original documents along with one copy of the following:

  • Academic Qualifications
  • Official Transcript for applicants with a degree
  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate
  • Recent Medical Certificate (less than three months)
  • Character Certificate  (Police Certificate of Character)
  • Two Testimonials
  • References from Previous Employers
  • Two Photographs (passport size)
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
Turn-around time 

Appointments are made based on the needs of the Public Service.
Deadline 

Usually, there are no deadlines associated with this service. However, in the event of an advertised position, the applicant should be guided by deadlines indicated in the advertisement.
