To better control the importation and manufacture of tobacco products all importers and manufactures of tobacco products must be registered under the Excise Stamp (Tobacco Products) Control Act, 2013.


Eligibility 

Persons and businesses wishing to import tobacco products in amounts that exceed five cartons of cigarettes, one thousand cigarettes, two hundred and fifty cigars or five pounds in weight must be registered under the Excise Stamp (Tobacco Products) Control Act, 2013. Persons importing Tobacco products under the provisions of the Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities Act are not required to register.

Process 
  1. Submit a completed application form along with copies of supporting documents to the Ministry of Finance.
  2. The application form must itemize products to be imported with estimates of the total quantities for a twelve (12) month period.
  3. Estimated quantity of Stamp is based on each individual package of tobacco to be imported in The Bahamas.
  4. A representative from the Ministry of Finance will review the application and, if necessary, request additional information and documentation.
  5. Once all requirements are met, the Ministry will contact the application via e-mail to inform them that the document is ready for collection.
  6. Once approved the applicant may then take the document and present it to customs each time material and supplies are being imported.

NB. Tobacco products will only be stamped in the following locations.

  • New Providence
  • Grand Bahama
  • Abaco
  • Exuma
  • Bimini
  • Eleuthera

  • Confirmation Letter from National Insurance indicating that contributions are current

Turn-around time 
Applicant should be advised of the status of their application within fifteen working days from the submission of the application.
Deadline 
Registration certificate will be valid for a period not exceeding twenty-four months.
