Message from the Director

Mr. Duane Miller, MSc, GISP, Director of BNGIS

Welcome to The Bahamas National Geographic Information Systems (BNGIS) Centre. As advocates for the infusion of modern technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated technologies, the Centre is committed to supporting governmental agencies in their transition to the digital world and more importantly supporting improved stewardship of our Country’s natural resources and advancing GIS literacy in The Bahamas.

As the technical focal point for GIS in The Bahamas, we strive to fulfill our mission which is to promote, educate, coordinate and advance the practical and efficient use of GIS in The Bahamas.

As a small island state stretched over 100,000 sq. miles of crystal blue waters there are many challenges ahead that continue to impact our environment and the way we live, ranging from climate change, disaster preparedness, population growth to urban development of our Islands and concerns about our coastal and marine resources as well as national security. GIS can help with all of these issues as a tool for data research and analysis and providing potential solutions for improved management of our resources.

We are excited about Geography, GIS and all other available technologies that allow us to explore new ways of improving the machinery of government, improving the delivery of public service and taking our nation to a new level of transparency and changing the way we conduct business in The Bahamas. Change is not a static event, it is a process and the Centre looks forward to the journey by beginning with the first step..."Bringing The Bahamas GIS to the Nation and to the World"...

Mr. Duane Miller, MSc, GISP,

Director, BNGIS Centre
