An excavation Permit is required for work to be done in highways.  All applicants and sent to the Chief Civil Engineer, Ministry of Works & Urban Development.


Eligibility 

Anyone interested in excavating close to the highway.

Process 
  1. Complete and submit the application form along with the required documents listed below, to the Ministry of Works & Urban Development or local administrator. Freeport applications are submitted to the Grand Bahama Port Authority Limited.
  2. The application and supporting documents are sent to the Civil Design Section.
  3. Applicants are notified via telephone that the Excavation Permit has been approved and can be collected upon payment of the permit fee.
  4. The applicant must then make final payment and collect the Excavation Permit at the Civil Design Section of the Ministry of Works & Urban Development.  Family Island applicants collect approved permit and make final payment at the local government office.  

Note: The application may be refused or additional information requested at any stage of the application process.  The applicant is informed of any queries in writing via the post. The application will not move forward unless the requested information is supplied. 
An application can be delayed for any of the following reasons:

  •  Incomplete application.
  • Queries not addressed.

Supporting Documents 

A drawing or sketch of proposed excavation work clearly showing the traffic management proposal for the duration of the contract works.

Turn-around time 

A permit is processed within six to eight weeks following the submission of all documents. Please note that this may vary based on external agency requirements.
