Case investigation is the first interaction between the client and the TB Control Unit. An initial interview is conducted so as to register the client and visually identify the TB suspect/case. During this initial interview the client’s history with the source is assessed. The identification or other possible contacts also begins at this time.


Eligibility 

Any member of the public, once suspected to be infected with TB.

Process 
  1. The TB Control Unit team member meets with the patient upon notification of a possible case of TB.
  2. The team member initiates the case investigation form and enters the patient in the National TB register.
  3. The team member discusses the aspects of treatment and follow up, and the use of DOT for treatment of TB.
  4. The patient is counseled on the importance of completing all recommended treatments.
  5. The team member begins to compile a list of all possible contacts in consultation with the patient.
