The Ministry of the Environment and Housing offers relief to those homeowners who have a need to repair their structures and who are unable to do so as a result of financial inability. Owners of houses in Government Subdivisions who need assistance must submit their request to the Department of Housing.
Bahamian citizens and residents who are 18 years of age or older, particularly senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
- Applicant wishing to access this service must submit a letter of request to the Ministry of Housing in New Providence. The letter should include the nationality, age, level of income and the needs of the applicant.

- All other Family Islands applicants must submit their application through the Family Island Administrator’s Office, who will forward the application to be processed in New Providence.
- The Ministry of Housing will liaise with the Department of Social Services to secure a Social History Report.
- Once all requirements are satisfied, the Department of Housing will contact qualifying applicants to inform them that their application is successful and to set up an appointment to assess the house.
- A Field Officer will conduct the assessment on the agreed date. The home owner/representative must be present for this assessment.
- The Department will then set up an appointment for contractors to visit the home to obtain quotations for the work to be done.
- A contractor will be selected and work will commence on the home.
- Once work is completed, the home owner/representative is required to sign an inspection verification form, indicating that the work has been completed satisfactorily.

- Current National Insurance Card
A request for minor house repairs takes a period of two to three weeks.
