A sealant is a form of preventative dental care traditionally used on school aged children. It is a thin, resin material that is bonded into the pits and fissures of the back teeth to prevent decay. Sealants are a safe and painless way of protecting back teeth. The hard shield prevents food and bacteria from wedging into the grooves of the teeth which can in turn cause tooth decay.  This should be done as soon as the teeth erupt from the gums.  Please note that the procedure is a painless one, and that the teeth feel normal once sealed.
