Transfers: Transfers may take place within the Public Service between ministries / departments. They also occur to and from Approved Authorities and are made by the Governor General acting on the advice of the relevant Service Commission.

Secondments to Approved Authorities: An Approved Authority may second persons serving in pensionable posts for a period not exceeding two (2) years at a time.
Approved Authorities include:

  • The Bahamas Broadcasting Corporation.
  • The Bahamas Development Corporation
  • The Bahamas Electricity Corporation
  • The Central Bank of The Bahamas
  • The Bahamas Development Bank
  • The Department of Tourism
  • The Bahamas Gaming Board
  • Bahamas Air
  • The Royal Bahamas Defence Force
  • The National Insurance Board
  • The College of The Bahamas and The Bahamas Hotel Training College
  • The Bahamas Agricultural & Industrial Corporation
  • The Hotel Corporation of The Bahamas
  • Bahamas Information Services
  • The Water & Sewage Corporation
  • The Bahamas Maritime Authority
  • The Public Hospitals Authority
  • The Public Utilities Commission
  • The Airport Authority
  • The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation

Eligibility 

Only officers serving in pensionable post may transfer to an approved authority.

Process 
  1. An officer who wishes to be considered for a transfer or secondment must submit a letter of request and supporting documents (if necessary) to immediate supervisor.
  2. The supervisor must endorse the request before forwarding to the Permanent Secretary of his department.    
  3. The Permanent Secretary will refer the request along with his comments to the Ministry of The Public Service.  
  4. The Department of Public Service sends a recommendation to the Public Service Commission
  5. Once the transfer or secondment is successful, the officer will receive a letter of transfer/secondment, which states the appointment terms, agency assignment and salary.
