Tip of the Month - July 2013

You  have the right to see CCTV Images of You

People whose images are recorded should be able to request access to their recorded personal information.  Under  section 8 of the Data Protection (Privacy of Personal Information) Act, 2003,  they have a right of access.

The public should be informed with clearly written signs at the perimeter of surveillance areas, which advise that the area is or may be under surveillance.

The sign should indicate who is responsible for compliance with data protection principles, and who can be contacted to answer questions or provide information about the system.

Disclosure of images from the CCTV must be controlled and consistent with the purpose for which the system was established.

Images from CCTV should not be kept for longer than is necessary to meet the purposes for recording them.
