Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service Met with Members of the ILO

In recognition of Human Rights Day, December 10th, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service the Hon. Frederick Mitchell met with members of the International Labour Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its unique Tripartite structure gives an equal voice to Workers, Employers and Government.

 

Minister Mitchell lauded the work of the National Tripartite Council (NTC) supported by the ILO in the launch of The Bahamas 2nd Generation Decent Work Country Program.

 

Minister Mitchell expressed to the ILO Team that the thrust towards national development and its human rights elements were interesting factors of the program.

 

The ILO Delegation discussed the various Conventions that were scheduled for ratification by The Bahamas.

 

Minister Mitchell advanced the support of the government and advised that the NTC was given the support of the Cabinet towards the ratification of Convention 190 and Recommendation 206, Violence and Harassment in the Workplace. The UN's declared 16 Days of Activism ends on Human Rights Day.
