The Department is headed by a Director who is a professionally qualified Civil and Environmental Engineers.
The following technical sections carryout the ministry's mandate:

Technical sections:
 

  1. BAHAMIX
    This section produces hot mix and paves the roads and parks in New Providence.
  2. BUILDING CONTROL
    This section is responsible for regulations of buildings construction in The Bahamas through the administration of the Building Regulations Act and The Building Regulations (General) Rules.
  3. CIVIL DESIGN & ROADS
    This section is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all airports, roads, bridges and storm water drains throughout The Bahamas.
  4. DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
    This section provides professional services in relation to design and construction projects for government buildings.
  5. FAMILY ISLAND MAINTENANCE
    This section is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all government infrastructure throughout the Family Islands.
  6. GENERAL SERVICES DIVISION
    This section has responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the majority of government buildings and several non-government building which are leased or rented by the government on the island of New Providence.
  7. MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
    This section has responsibility for the design, installation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems for government buildings.
  8. QUANTITY SURVEYING
    This section is responsible for the monitoring and management of Government expenditure and cost variations on projects undertaken by the Ministry.
  9. STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
    This section is to provide structural engineering for projects and undertakes structural investigations on existing buildings and checks calculations on building plans for the Building Control Officer.
