Minister Mitchell addressed Labour Day Parade in Grand Bahama

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas -- Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, the Hon. Fred Mitchell was the keynote speaker at the Randol Fawkes Labor Day Parade in Freeport, Grand Bahama, on Friday, June 2, 2023, in downtown Freeport, which brought together workers and unions of the island.  A rally in Downtown Freeport followed the parade from Independence Park to downtown's centre.   Workers from various government and public entities turned out for the event, including the Nurses Union, Teachers Union, BCPOU, the Taxi Union, Grand Bahama Dock and Allied Workers Union, Immigration, Customs and many others.  The rally was an opportunity for union leaders to highlight the challenges they wished to see resolved for workers.  Minister Mitchell expressed deep appreciation for the support of workers of the country, and acknowledged the concerns, providing clarity where he saw situations that were complex, and stating: “We deeply appreciate all of the support by the workers of this country.  They are the engine of the country. We agree with you, we support you and we pledge to work together to try and solve and resolve these problems."

OFFICIALS ON PARADE – Displaying support for workers on Grand Bahama Government Ministers, Senators and other officials took part in the 2023 Randol Fawkes Labour Day Parade in Grand Bahama on Friday, June 2, 2023. Joining the workers were Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service the Hon. Fred Mitchell (center); Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe (second from left); Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey (third from right); and Senator the Hon. James Turner (left).

 

 

MINISTERS AND UNION LEADERS – Following Friday’s Labour Day Parade and rally, government ministers posed for a photo with union leaders in Grand Bahama.  Hon. Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, was joined by Minister of Social Services and Urban Development Hon. Obie Wilchcombe; Senator Kirkland Russell and Senator James Turner, with union leaders.
