The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture along with the Hon. Iram Lewis, extends congratulations to our very own Kai Jones on being drafted into the NBA.

Bahamian born Kai Jones was selected as the 19th overall pick by the New York Nicks and subsequently traded to the Charlotte Hornets during the 2021 NBA draft held 29 July, 2021. Kai’s entry into this professional basketball league makes him the third active Bahamian born athlete playing in the league, joining the likes of Buddy Hield (Sacramento Kings), and DeAndre Ayton (Phoenix Suns).

We are further proud to report that Kai is the 2018 Youth in Sports Award Winner and Minister’s Cup recipient for the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture.

Our Bahamian athletes, those born here as well as those with Bahamian roots such as Klay Thompson and Eric Gordon continue to demonstrate that their sacrifices, determination and dedication to their craft has resulted in them experiencing the success which we celebrate today.

The Ministry applauds Kai Jones for this outstanding achievement and wishes him much success in his new role as he elevates his career, while simultaneously representing a proud nation.
