Bahamas Ambassador to Cuba, H.E. Dr. Elliston Rahming presented his Letters of Credence to Cuban President H.E. Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez at the Presidential Palace in Havana on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

In his remarks, Ambassador Rahming spoke of the forty-eight years of cordial relations between the two countries and took special note of Cuba’s vaccination development programme and thanked the Cuban government for its ongoing assistance in providing healthcare professionals to work in The Bahamas’ healthcare system. He also reaffirmed The Bahamas’ support for the lifting of the economic embargo imposed against Cuba.

Unlike most countries, Cuba has a two-tier credential presentation protocol. Incoming Ambassadors present a copy of their Letters of Credence in a private ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (as Dr. Rahming did a month ago) and every quarter the President of Cuba invites newly appointed Ambassadors to a lavish ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

Ambassador Rahming has said that while in Cuba he will seek to forge new economic linkages between the two countries and maximize bilateral relationships with Ambassadors from other countries in order to attract new investments for The Bahamas.
