FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas – ‘Labour on the Blocks 2.0’ will be held on Saturday, May 7, at the Jack Hayward Auditorium, announced Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey during a press conference on Thursday.
According to Minister Moxey, “I think it’s an exciting time for Grand Bahama. There is so much going on. There’s a lot of hope because we have a lot of projects on the drawing board.”

The Ministry for Grand Bahama is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Labour and Immigration as unemployment has been a real issue in Grand Bahama “and we’re happy to be able to receive resumes and have the companies on board who have agreed to collaborate and be a part of this.”

Officer in charge of the Department of Labour in Grand Bahama, Bonnie Johnson said it is an exciting time for Grand Bahama and all job seekers are urged to bring their resumes, identification, a police certificate and dress smartly.

Some 22 companies have signed up be a part of the fair – five from the tourism industry, representatives from the industrial sector as well as the medical sector and food stores. Ms. Johnson added the Royal Bahamas Police Force as well as the Royal Bahamas Defence Force will be recruiting members during the fair.
Another recruiting group will be present, the LEAD Institute who will also be hiring.
“We are certain you will find some job opportunity you can use to boost your career and to move to the next level.”

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Grand Bahama, Harcourt Brown, urged people to get registered as they will be entered into the national skills databank. This means those people registering will have their names, qualifications and experience will be entered in the national skills databank exposing them to employers anywhere in the country.

This is, he said, an example of a collaborative effort in giving people an opportunity to be hired.

Minister Moxey thanked Minister Keith Bell, Minister of Labour and Immigration, for ensuring that the programmes give people opportunities to find employment. She added, “I’m sure this is only the beginning of what we plan to do together and with partnerships with the corporate community.”
