Minister Pintard meets with Cuban Ambassador His Excellency Alejandro Garcia del Toro

Nassau, The Bahamas: Cuban Ambassador to The Bahamas, His Excellency Alejandro Garcia del Toro, Ambassador of the  Republic of Cuba, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Hon. Michael Pintard on Wednesday, 26th May, 2021.

 

During the meeting, Ambassador del Toro  expressed the view that there is broad potential for cooperation between Cuba and The Bahamas on agricultural matters such as technical assistance in the production of poultry, potential agricultural growth, and other agricultural initiatives.

 

He noted that Cuba, through the  Cuban University can collaborate with  The Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI) , Gladstone Road Agricultural Centre (GRAC), the University of The Bahamas and  Marine Resources, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)  between the two countries could be established.

 

 Minister Pintard advised that The Bahamas could be assisted in the following areas:

  • Food Production in agriculture
  • Agricultural technical support scholarship at the Bachelor’s level
  • Production of compost on resource saving technology  in Bahamian Agriculture
  • Capacity building in extension services –technical skills in the management of food processing
  • Partnerships with the University of Cuba Technical team - the connectivity developing new field  research and pasture development conducive to the climate in The Bahamas

Ambassador del Toro, expressed his excitement regarding the potential for Cuba’s Cooperation with The Bahamas on a broad range of matters, and expressed their willingness to share knowledge and expertise in agriculture and fisheries with The Bahamas. Minister Pintard thanked Ambassador del Toro for Cuba’s interest and expressed optimism with respect to working on agricultural and fishing initiatives.

 

Both sides shared respect and realized the potential that such collaboration holds for both nations. Minister Pintard presented a gift to the Ambassador as a symbol of this cooperation.
