FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas – While on a brief strip to Grand Bahama on Thursday, March 30, Dame Marguerite Pindling, wife of the country’s first and longest serving Prime Minister, the late Sir Lynden O. Pindling, received a painting by artist Benjamin Ferguson, Jr.

The presentation was made during a courtesy call on Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey at the Ministry.

Mr. Ferguson, the art teacher at Jack Hayward Senior High School, was introduced to Dame Marguerite, former Governor General, and explained the painting to her as Minister Moxey and Permanent Secretary, Melvin Seymour listened.

Entitled “The Road To Independence” Ferguson explained that it was created from the Independence celebrations of 2022, live, and he continued to “embellish it to what it is today.”  Describing his piece, he said it depicts Sir Lynden holding the Bahamian Flag and notes, “on one side it is black and white and on the other side, in full colour. The side in black and white shows the Union Jack holding onto him but, at the same time, pulling away from him -- he is holding onto the Bahamian Flag moving forward towards a new Bahamas.”

Clearly proud of his creation, Ferguson added the painting also shows flamingos flying freely while displaying the beautiful colours of the country.
Also, during the courtesy call, Dame Marguerite was introduced to staff at the Ministry for Grand Bahama who were descendants of her birthplace, the island of Andros.
