Northern Bahamas commemorates Local Government Month

GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas – A number of activities are planned throughout the Family Islands during the month of March in commemoration of Local Government Month.



In Grand Bahama, local practitioners kicked-off celebrations with a church service on Sunday.  Members of the City of Freeport Council worshiped at New Life Community Church, Freeport, while Local Government members in West Grand Bahama gathered at Inspirational Global Ministries, Holmes Rock.  Those in East Grand Bahama will worship at a later date.



The three districts joined for a Flag Raising Ceremony today at the Administrator’s Office on the courtyard of the National Insurance Building with the Police Pop Band.



Councillors in East Grand Bahama will kick-off their festivities with a worship service at Church of God in High Rock at 11:00am on Sunday, March 12th.  



On Monday, March 13th at 3:00pm, the City of Freeport will host high school students from schools throughout Grand Bahama who are set to participate in ‘The Great Debate’ on Local Government at Pelican Bay Hotel and a Disaster Preparedness Training session on Saturday, March 18th at 10:00am free of charge to the residents of Grand Bahama.



The West Grand Bahama councilors are also planning a clean-up campaign and staff appreciation day, the details to be announced.



All roads will lead to the east on Thursday, March 23rd for a Town Meeting at St. Nicholas Anglican Church in High Rock at 6:30pm and on Saturday, March 25 the East Grand Bahama Local Government practitioners will host a social and grill out at the entrance in the area of Gold Rock Creek, beginning at 12:00pm.



On the island of Abaco, Central Abaco: Flag Raising Ceremony today at the Government Complex and a Fun Day at the Murphy Town Community Centre Tuesday, March 7th.



Saturday, March 18th is designated Clean-up Campaign Day and on Sunday, March 19th, Local Government officials will gather at Church Service at Zion Baptist Church.



Highschoolers will also take part in a Speech Competition on March 20th to discuss how Local Government has impacted the lives of Abaconians.



Residents in North Abaco had a Fun/Run/Walk and Health Screening at the Manx Centre, West Bay on Saturday, as part of Local Government celebrations before gathering on Sunday, for worship at Christ the King Anglican Church.



Local Government practitioners hosted a Flag Raising Ceremony today at the Manx Building and will have a luncheon on March 15 at the Paul Farquharson Centre honouring Women in Local Government.



In South Abaco, Local Government officials worshiped at Soul Seeking Ministry on Sunday, with Flag Raising Ceremony and Fun Day at the Cultural Park at Hard Bargain today, and a Speech Competition on March 12 at Greater Bethel Native Baptist Church.



On March 15, South Abaco Local Government District will host a luncheon in recognition of women in Local Government at K’s Take-A-Way Hard Bargain, Moore’s Island.



Over on the island of Bimini, Local Government Officials had a full weekend of activities: walk-a-thon on Saturday, followed by a church Service at Wesley Methodist Church on Sunday, and a flag raising ceremony at the Administrator’s Office today.
