Lyford Cay Foundations is offering a unique opportunity for a public servant to pursue a graduate degree on a full scholarship at the University of Toronto’s prestigious Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

The new Peter Munk Scholarship for Public Sector Excellence is open to public servants with at least three years’ experience in The Bahamas’ public sector and is part of the Foundations’ efforts to provide promising applicants with an opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge base, said LCF Executive Director, Nicola Virgill-Rolle.

“Lyford Cay Foundations felt that this scholarship would provide an amazing opportunity for public officers to benefit from an internationally recognized school like the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy,” she said.

She noted that the person who receives the scholarship to attend the school will be expected to bring the experience and knowledge gained back to the Bahamian public service.

“This scholarship not only benefits the public officer, but ultimately it’s also a benefit to the entire country,” said Tim Unwin, Chairman of the Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation. “Public policy affects every aspect of society.”

The University of Toronto is regarded as a top university in both Canadian and global rankings. And its highly competitive Munk School brings together students and faculty who are eager to understand and find solutions to complex local and global policy issues.

Public officers interested in the opportunity will have to apply and gain acceptance into the Munk School before being considered by Lyford Cay Foundations for the scholarship award.

The Munk School will begin taking applications for the 2023 fall semester on October 1, 2022, and the deadline to apply is January 25, 2023.

Scholarship applications to Lyford Cay Foundations will be opened in February 2023.

The Foundations is grateful for the strong and positive response from the Government to this scholarship opportunity. Representatives of the Foundations and the Ministry of the Public Service held a productive meeting to discuss and plan the information roll-out of the scholarship, to ensure that all interested and qualified public officers, including those in the uniformed branches, have an opportunity to apply.
