Knowledge exchange at Energy Expo provides momentum toward sustainable development says Minister of the Environment.

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Hon. Vaughn Miller, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources addressed the Best Energy Bahamas Expo on the topic “The Impact of Energy on the Environment” Friday, March 24, 2023.

The one-day event put on by WMS Holdings Ltd. brought together energy experts at the company’s first expo at Breezes Bahamas, Cable Beach. The event focused on issues facing the local and Caribbean energy sector.

Presenters included Pastor Mario Moxey, Vice-President, The Bahamas Christian Council, on “The Cost of Electricity Impacting the Work of the Church and its Members”; Phyllice Bethel, interim Deputy Executive Director, Access Accelerator on “Advisory, Support & Funding for MSM’s in the Efficient and Renewables Sectors”; D’Arcy Rahming, CEO, Arawak X on “Local Investment in the Energy Sector” and Wilfred Smith, Managing Director, WMS Holdings Ltd./Best Energy Bahamas on “The Bahamas, a Clean Energy Exporter” among others.

Minister Miller said The Bahamas is in search of the “best and brightest” in the country to guide the government and steer communities in transitioning to “cleaner” and “more affordable” energy.

 He listed the following points that the government is anticipating: the generation of “new wealth”, witnessing of job growth, experiencing increased local ownership of clean energy generators and distributors, witnessing real GDP growth, and national engagement in energy exports.
Minister Miller said, “Our communities require more cooperation, more integration, more idea and knowledge exchange. What we produce at the Expo will affect our next generation, and generations to come.

“It is my hope that the citizens we lead and care for will be reminded that as it was once our duty, it will someday be theirs “To continue to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling their fellow Bahamians to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

“The collective knowledge, exchanges in renewable energy generation and energy distribution strategies at this Expo are designed to strengthen our efforts toward promoting sustainable development through understanding and responding to calls for measurable clean energy implementation,” he said.
