NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Hon. Vaughn Miller, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources (MENR) and H.E. Tony Joudi, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar, attended the 13th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly, January 13 to 15, 2023.  The Assembly was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to the theme ‘World Energy Transition – The Global Stocktake’.

Sessions to facilitate interaction between decision-makers on pressing issues related to the energy transition in the coming decade and beyond, and inform the future work of the agency were held during the Assembly. Stakeholder engagement events to bring specific perspectives on energy transition from parliamentarians, youth and the private sector also took place during the 13th session.

Ministerial Dialogues were held on topics including: “Critical materials for the Renewables-Centered Energy Transition: How to jointly harness opportunities”, “Energy Transition Accelerator Financing Platform”, “Regional Energy Transition Outlooks: Southeast Asia Energy Transitions”.

Topics also included: Women in Diplomacy Event: Empowering Lives and Livelihoods; Renewables for Adaptation and SDG7 at Mid-Point: Delivering on the Global Roadmap for Accelerated SDG7 Action.

The IRENA Assembly brings together heads of state/government, ministers and energy decision-makers among its membership and states-in-accession, as well as multilateral organizations, global stakeholders and private actors to evaluate operational plans and policies, and highlight action undertaken to implement energy transition across countries, regions and the world.
