FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- With 300 jobs available and with 29 private sector companies, along with a number of government agencies all in one place, Labor on the Blocks 2.0 in Freeport, Grand Bahama is expected to be teeming with opportunities and expectation for those seeking employment.

The second edition of the successful labor job fair is set to take place on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at St. Georges gymnasium, beginning at 9 a.m. There will be a cross-section of businesses and companies at the job fair, from accounting firms, to industrial companies, hospitality industries, to security companies.

“I’m so excited for this to be happening, because it shows that Grand Bahama is on the move,” said Minister for Grand Bahama, Hon. Ginger Moxey, during a press conference on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Ministry for Grand Bahama.  I felt that it was important for the Ministry for Grand Bahama to collaborate with the Department of Labor once again for Labor on the Blocks 2.0 Job Fair, to send a resounding message to the Grand Bahama community that jobs are available and that employers are actively seeking individuals to fill these positions.”

She noted, "I’m pleased to report that this job fair will host 29 private sector companies, in addition to several government agencies. Participants are encouraged to dress professionally, bring detailed copies of resumes, valid national insurance cards, police records and credible references.  As several companies have specified their intent to hire on the spot, I charge all job fair goers to put their best foot forward to 'wow' employers.

"To the residents of Grand Bahama, I urge you to take full advantage of this initiative led by the department of Labor, under the leadership of my Cabinet colleagues Minister of Labor and Immigration, Hon. Keith Bell.

“We’re hoping that as many people as possible show up on Saturday, who have been seeking employment for a while now. As I’ve always said Grand Bahama has been through so much. There have been so many who haven’t worked for a long, long time. This is a wonderful opportunity where there wil be so many companies out, looking to hire individuals. We’ve been challenged on this island, and these companies have been holding it down over the years.”

Ms. Bonnie Johnson, Officer in charge of the Northern region of the Department of Labor, said that in keeping with the Department’s vision, which is to safeguard and ensure employment for all, the department of Labor is very excited to partner with the Minister for Grand Bahama, Hon. Ginger Moxey.

Ms. Johnson called the job fair “an exciting opportunity here that is available for our Grand Bahama community”, adding that there are 300 vacancies that are available and these range from entry level to high level positions.  Ms. Johnson pointed out that fifty percent of those 300 job vacancies she referred to are in the hospitality industry, adding that there have been indications from the hospitality managers that they are ready to employ workers immediately.

“We are preparing in Grand Bahama for the big boost. Come out and take advantage of these opportunities. There are even jobs available in the industrial sector, as well as availabilities in the retail business and in the security business.”

Government entities expected to be a part of Saturday’s Labor on the Blocks 2.0 will include Immigration, the Police Department, and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.
