MOHW held 2nd Annual Doctors Day Recognition Ceremony at South Beach Health Centre

NASSAU, The Bahamas - The Ministry of Health and Wellness held its 2nd Annual Doctors’ Day Recognition Ceremony, honouring the work of physicians, especially under challenging circumstances.


March 30 is observed annually as 'Doctors’ Day’ globally, and here in The Bahamas the ceremony was held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the South Beach Health Centre, where those doctors were awarded for their outstanding healthcare services.

 
The honourees were feted to a scrumptious Bahamian meal, and presented with gifts, certificate of appreciation, and a red carnation – the symbol of Doctors’ Day.


In his remarks, Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville said it was a pleasure to celebrate Doctors’ Day at the South Beach Health Centre, which was one of the focal points of healthcare and testing during the height of COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.

 
He noted that the Davis Administration, upon assuming office in September 2021, realized the challenges in the healthcare facilities throughout the country and promised to address those issues as outlined in its 'Blueprint for Change.'

The doctors honoured were: Dr. Danny Johnson, Dr. Brunee Dorsett, Dr. Librada Quiling-Capuli, Dr. Latanya Adderley, Dr. Clifton Astwood, Dr. Keith Rivers, Dr. James Adderley, Dr. Yolanda Jones, Dr. Sanita Belgrave-King, Dr. Chrispin Gomez, Dr. Feron Deveaux, Dr. Gerrad Deveaux, Dr. Teka Grant, Dr. Mucomba Millar, Dr. Ian Cartwright, and Dr. Roseann Knowles-McPhee.

Dr. Chrispin Gomez was named 'Doctor of the Year'; and Dr. Clifton Astwood, runner-up.
 

Also present at the ceremony were: Colin Higgs, MOHW Permanent Secretary; Dr. Philip Swann, Registrar; and Charlene Bain, Administrator for Community Health Services. Participating in the ceremony were Nurse Joy Tucker; Fianka Major, Clinic Administrator; and other staff members.
